Economic Update – ‘Sustainable Economics’ (Nov 2022)

In the first week of November, economists and investors alike were all focused on the US Federal Reserve meeting hoping for a signal of a ‘pivot’ from the unprecedented series of aggressive interest rate increases. This hopeful thinking had lifted stocks during October, however, Chairperson J Powell in a messy press conference eventually squashed all hope. Markets quickly moved on decided China will soon relax its COVID restrictions leading to a broad risk on rally particularly for commodities. It seems investors are primmed and ready to pounce, they just need something sustainable.
